Dr. Shannon Layne grew up in the Raleigh area of North Carolina and has had pets all her life. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. She continued straight into vet school at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in May of 2010 after following both a small and large animal curriculum.
Dr. Layne has spent eight years practicing in several different hospitals to gain the most amount of varied mentorship as possible. She has practiced in both large and small animal hospitals, and has a special interest in holistic medicine. Dr. Layne believes in combining the “best of both worlds” and uses both conventional and holistic medicine to provide the best quality care for every animal.
She achieved a certification in acupuncture and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine in 2014 from the Chi Institute after an intensive year of study and frequent trips to Florida. However, she has been practicing holistic medicine for more than six years. Dr. Layne will also frequently use herbal medicine in addition to acupuncture to provide a faster and more effective response.
In addition to holistic medicine, Dr. Layne’s other passion is ultrasonography. She has been specially trained and certified to perform complete and thorough full abdominal ultrasounds. This can be a much less invasive method to diagnosing many common diseases that, otherwise, may require surgery to diagnose.
In her free time, Dr. Layne performs acupuncture on horses in Northeast PA, and enjoys taking long walks with her shelter-rescued fox terrier, Tessa. She is an avid reader and also loves music, singing and has played piano since she was two years old. She enjoys hiking, yoga, and loves knitting and crocheting.
